Normal closure of the vocal folds during voicing

Your Voice is a reflection of your self

It is how we communicate with the world, from our closest friends and family to our work colleagues and beyond. For many, it is our means of income. Some people have incredible control over their voice and use it in completely amazing ways, usually with many years of training and practice. For most of us, it is the source of our communication that we don't think about much until it isn't working for us.

How Does your voice work?

The voice is the source of sound we use when we speak. We shape that sound into words and other communications (such as laughing) to communicate our ideas, emotions, needs and, well, everything.

Voice is generated in the larynx by air passing between closed vocal cords.

If there is a problem with the nerves and/or muscles controlling the larynx, vocal cords or breathing system, this can stop the voice working efficiently (or even at all). This is known as Dysphonia.

What is Dysphonia?

Dysphonia simply means disordered voice.

Who is affected by Dysphonia?

Anyone can be affected by dysphonia, from children to adults, from singers and teachers to parents and granparents.
