Spasmodic Dysphonia is a problem with nerve signals to the vocal cords which causes them to spasm during speech. This interferes with the flow of voice with the voice stopping on and off. It can be incredibly frustrating and debilitating.
Diagnosis can sometimes be difficult, but it is usually diagnosed by a team including ENT, Neurologist and Speech Pathologist.
Yes. The main treatment for Spasmodic Dysphonia is Botulum Toxin (Botox) injection to reduce the muscle spasms. This is usually effective in improving the voice.
